Jose Mesa- Officially A Tiger

I've been warned by one of my Cleveland Indian obsessed friends since the Tigers acquired Jose Mesa that he will fuck up every game he's in. Well, chalk one up. Registering one out in his first appearance as a Tiger, he gave up three hits, resulting in two runs, and waisted a perfectly good game from Justin Verlander. Justin gave up just two hits in a scoreless debut for the season, even though he walked five and struck out just four.

C-Mo finally got his first hit of the year, and also drove in the only Tigers run of the day on a sacrifice fly to score Carlos Guillen. Hopefully, this'll get him on track and warm the bats up in that line up. Traditionally, the Tigs always warm up with the weather, and that might be very true this year, when it seems April is going to be colder than this past December.

Of course, the entire game came down to what once again happened once a Tiger starter left the game- a collapse from the bullpen. Verlander left the game after six very strong innings, and gave Jose Mesa every opportunity to impress in his innings of the season. What'd he do? Leadoff double, RBI triple, RBI single. Great job Jose, get the hell out. Seriously, what is going on with the pen thus far? Three games, two blown games, one near total collapse. With his crippling Guitar Hero addiction, Joel Zumaya can't pitch every game, believe it or not. There are competent pitchers in that bullpen, they just need to realize that spring training is over and these games are for real now.

Hopefully the warmer afternoon game tomorrow will bring heated bats with it, five hits and one run against KC is just unacceptable.
